The Rev. Kathy Hettinga
Rector
The Rev. Kathy T. Hettinga, has answered God’s call to serve as Rector, Christ Episcopal Church, Canon City, CO. Hettinga served as Associate to the Rector, St. Andrew’s, York, and Chaplain, Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster, PA. She is a graduate of the Stephenson School for Ministry. Hettinga brings a wealth of experience to her calling to the Priesthood, including formation work in parishes, teaching and mentoring as a University Professor, pastoral care as a Hospice Chaplain, and as a creative book artist. Long interested in the spiritual in visual arts, Hettinga earned the MFA, Colorado State University, was awarded Research Fellow at Yale’s Institute of Sacred Art, Residency at Wesley Theological Seminary, taught at Indiana-Purdue University, and named Distinguished Professor of Art/Design at Messiah University. Hettinga grew up in the San Luis Valley, and is author and photographer of Grave Images: The San Luis Valley (Museum of New Mexico Press).
Amy Banker
Parish Administrator
Originally from Colorado Springs, Amy now calls Cañon City home. She has a BA in Elementary Education from Western Washington University. She taught Kindergarten and Preschool for 5 years before becoming a mother and staying home. Amy has been working part-time at Christ Church since 2021 and enjoys the work-life balance.
Amy is happily married to her husband, Jon, of 13 years. They have 2 children, Levi is 8 and Claire is 6. She enjoys running on the riverwalk, spending time with her family and snuggling up with a good book and drinking coffee.
Joyce Kissinger
Organist
Joyce is a graduate of CCHS and Whitworth College, and earned a Master's Degree in Church Music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
She served as deputy organist at St. John's the Evangelist Cathedral in Spokane, Washington, and also served as organist at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She also served as organist/choir director at Norwood Park Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) and was the pianist for chapel services and special occasions at The Dan
Vestry
In the Episcopal Church, the vestry is the governing body of a parish and is responsible, along with the rector, for prayer, planning, and policies within the parish. During times of transition, the vestry leads the process of calling and supporting a new rector.
